ICT Intern, TECF, Dubai

Organizational Context

In response to the critical global hunger crisis, WFP, recipient of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize, is committed to combating food insecurity worldwide. To bolster the efficiency and impact of its initiatives, WFP is relocating key corporate functions within procurement and supply chain management from Rome, Italy, to the UAE. Leveraging the UAE’s strategic advantages, WFP has established the Global Supply Chain Support Center in Dubai.

Job Title: ICT Intern
Job Contract/Grade: Internship
Duration: 6 months
Location: UAE, Dubai
Reporting To: Head of Operations, FITTEST
Expected Start Date: May/June 2024

Role and responsibilities:

Under the leadership of the Chief TECF, the intern will benefit from close mentoring and technical supervision. Performance planning, reviews, and learning discussions will be integral to the internship experience. With a comprehensive induction package and soft-skills training, the intern will rapidly contribute to the team.

  • Coordinate daily team activities globally, exploring remote working options.
  • Analyze networking problems and telecom infrastructure, recommending solutions for modification and improvement.
  • Maintain, upgrade, or enhance existing systems by troubleshooting and providing technical user support.
  • Ensure data security and access controls, engaging with Customer Service (CS) as a technical advisor.
  • Provide advice on logistics movement, structure, staffing levels, and stock reports.
  • Implement overall cost recovery mechanisms and improvements.

Role Requirements:

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from an IT, electronics, or related technical program.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Good research and analytical skills, with resourcefulness and initiative.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and quickly learn new technologies.
  • Motivated team player, open to new challenges, and able to communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to plan, organize work, and work with minimum supervision.
  • Tact and ability to work harmoniously with diverse teams.
  • Problem-solving skills, the ability to conceptualize issues, andthe ability to analyze numerical data.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite; web skills and knowledge of GIS systems are advantageous.
  • Fluency in oral and written English and intermediate knowledge of another official UN language are desirable.

Training Components:

Interns have access to the WeLearn platform and may participate in WFP workshops or seminars based on the availability of funds.

Learning Elements:

By the end of the internship, the intern should have:

  • An overview of WFP operations and the handling of TECF & FITTEST.
  • Knowledge of cost recovery operations and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of humanitarian reform, the Cluster Approach, etc.
  • Experience in emergency ICT assessments, tender evaluations, and logistics support.
